How It Works - 4 Simple Steps to "Married!"

1

Apply for your marriage license.

The first step is applying for your marriage license, ideally 3–6 weeks before your wedding day. Requirements vary by location, including waiting periods and expiration dates. If you need help navigating the process, we’re happy to assist with research to make sure everything’s in order.

2

Schedule date and choose location.

Once you’re ready to lock in your date, we’ll get it on the calendar! A $50 non-refundable deposit secures your spot, with the remaining balance due before the big day. You can choose a location that fits your vision—whether it’s your backyard, a scenic overlook, or a local venue. If you need help picking the perfect spot, we’ve got suggestions!

3

Say "I do" and sign the license.

On your wedding day, simply bring your valid photo IDs and the marriage license. I’ll guide you through the planned ceremony. Once the vows are exchanged and rings are on, we’ll sign the license together to make it official!

4

License submitted to city records.

After the ceremony, I’ll personally handle submitting your signed license to the appropriate city or county office. You don’t need to worry about a thing—just enjoy married life while the paperwork is taken care of. Your marriage certificate will then be issued according to local guidelines.

"I Do and Dash" Frequently Asked Questions

What exactly is the "I Do and Dash" service?

The “I Do and Dash” service is a quick, straightforward wedding ceremony for couples who want to make it official without all the extras. It includes a short, pre-scripted ceremony, the signing of your marriage license, and the legal filing of your paperwork—simple, easy, and efficient.

Is this a legal marriage?

Yes! The “I Do and Dash” ceremony results in a legally recognized marriage. I am ordained through American Marriage Ministries (AMM), a federally recognized 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. We follow all state and county requirements, ensure your marriage license is completed correctly, and file it with the appropriate office after the ceremony. I’m happy to provide my ordination certification and a letter of good standing with the church upon request.

Why do you need a copy of our IDs?

For diligent record keeping purposes. We require valid photo IDs to verify your identity and ensure we meet the legal requirements for your marriage license. Most states require the officiant to confirm both parties’ identities before performing the ceremony. Upon an audit, proof of identification and a copy of the signed license will be available for review. At no other time will your information be viewed by anyone other than our company.

Can we customize the ceremony?

This service offers simplicity over customization. While we don’t create fully personalized ceremonies for this package, you’ll be able to choose from a curated menu of pre-written vows and ceremony scripts to find one that fits your style. If you’re looking for a more customized experience, check out our Traditional Ceremony option!

How long does the ceremony last?

Most “I Do and Dash” ceremonies take about 10–15 minutes from start to finish. The goal is to keep it simple while still honoring the significance of the moment.

Do we need to bring anything to the ceremony?

Yes! You’ll need to bring:

• Your valid marriage license (issued within the proper timeframe for your state)

• Valid (non-expired) government issued photo IDs for both partners

• Any rings you’d like to exchange (optional, but most couples choose to include this step)

When should we apply for our marriage license?

It’s best to apply for your marriage license 3–6 weeks before your ceremony to account for waiting periods and processing times. Keep in mind that most licenses expire after a certain time if unused. If you’re unsure of the requirements for your city or county, we’re happy to help you research.

Do we need a witness to attend?

That depends on your state. Some states require one or two witnesses to sign the marriage license, while others don’t. Texas, for example does not currently require witnesses. If needed, we can help clarify the requirements for your specific location. We can also coordinate for witnesses upon request for a small additional fee.

Can we have guests attend?

Absolutely! While “I Do and Dash” ceremonies are designed to be simple and intimate, you’re welcome to bring a handful of guests. Just let us know in advance if you’ll have more than 5–10 people, so we can make sure the location and timeline work smoothly. Maximum guests for this package is 20. If more, please consider booking under the "traditional ceremony" package.

Where can the ceremony take place?

We’ll work together to find a convenient local spot—like a park, your backyard, or a scenic overlook. If you already have a place in mind, just let us know. Keep in mind that travel fees apply for locations more than 50 miles from our home base.

Can you perform a proxy marriage?

No, BrightVow Ceremonies does not perform proxy marriages. In most jurisdictions, both partners must be physically present for the ceremony. Exceptions may apply to active duty military members serving overseas. Please inquire if this situation applies to you.

Can we get photos of the ceremony?

Yes! Every “I Do and Dash” package includes a handful of digital photos taken by our resident photographer. If you’d like additional photos or more time for portraits, you're welcome to discuss options with the photographer directly for a photo add-on package.

What are the payment requirements?

A $50 non-refundable booking fee is required to secure your ceremony date. The remaining balance must be paid in full before the ceremony. We accept online payments only—no cash or checks at this time.

How far in advance should we book?

To ensure availability, we recommend booking at least 2–4 weeks in advance. However, if you need a last-minute ceremony, reach out—we might be able to squeeze you in if the schedule allows!

Can we write our own vows?

The “I Do and Dash” package uses pre-scripted vows to keep things simple. However, if you’d like to write your own vows, we’d be happy to accommodate that through one of our more personalized ceremony packages.

Can we include religious elements in the ceremony?

Absolutely! We offer religious and non-religious options within our selection of pre-scripted ceremonies. If you have specific religious preferences, let us know and we’ll help you find a fitting script.

What happens after the ceremony?

We recommend celebrating, of course! On a serious note, once the ceremony is complete and your license is signed, we’ll take care of submitting it to the appropriate county office. You can expect your official marriage certificate to arrive based on your local office’s processing timeline.

Can you perform the ceremony in uniform?

Yes! As an Army officer, I am happy to perform ceremonies in uniform if requested—especially for military couples looking to incorporate that meaningful touch into their big day.

What if the weather is bad?

If your outdoor ceremony is threatened by weather, we’ll work together to find a backup plan. Having an alternate indoor location in mind is always a good idea for outdoor events.

What if we need to cancel or reschedule?

We understand that plans change. Your $50 booking fee is non-refundable, but if you need to reschedule, we’ll apply that payment to your alternate date and do our best to accommodate you based on availability. Additional fees may apply for rescheduling within 7 days of the ceremony date.

Policy & Considerations

Legal Considerations

  • As an ordained minister through American Marriage Ministries, I am able to solemnize marriages anywhere in the U.S. Officiant requirements may vary with state and local laws. We will conduct all the research and action necessary to make sure we're legally prepared to officiate your ceremony at no additional cost to you, of course. Keep in mind, officiant registration in certain locations may take some time, so the sooner we get started, the better if extra action is required in your county.

  • Depending on your location, witnesses may or may not be required to sign your marriage license (even for elopements). Again, we will conduct all necessary research to inform you of everything you need to consider prior to the event.

Preparation

  • Initial consultation is included in all packages to discuss the ceremony details and any specific requirements or preferences.

  • A draft of the ceremony will be provided for review and approval. This includes up to two rounds of revisions; additional revisions may incur a fee.

  • Rehearsal services are available at an additional fee and must be scheduled in advance.

At the Event

  • Couples will be responsible for providing the marriage license for signature at the time of their scheduled event. For information on getting your marriage license, please visit our page here.

  • Each individual will be required to bring a form of government issued photo identification (driver's license or passport) for verification purposes. A scanned photocopy of your identification will be kept in our records along with your signed contract. See our privacy policy for more information on this requirement.

  • At this time, we will not perform proxy marriages, regardless of state or local laws . Both individuals must be physically present in order to perform the ceremony. (Exceptions may apply for deployed military service members - please inquire if this applies to you.)

Travel & Accommodation

  • If your ceremony requires travel beyond 100 miles, additional travel expenses and potential accommodation costs will be assessed.

  • All travel beyond a 25 mile radius will accrue an additional fixed mileage fee (calculated by the shortest route in Google Maps, excluding tolls).

  • To get this out of the way, we do not expect an invitation to rehearsal dinners, receptions, or anything outside of the actual ceremony. If the couple insists on extending an invite, a "plus one" invitation would kindly be appreciated. We will comply with all R.S.V.P. timelines and costs as necessary.
