The first step is applying for your marriage license, ideally 3–6 weeks before your wedding day. Requirements vary by location, including waiting periods and expiration dates. If you need help navigating the process, we’re happy to assist with research to make sure everything’s in order.

Next, let’s pick the perfect date and spot for your adventure. A $50 non-refundable deposit secures your booking, with the final balance due before the big day. As for location—whether it’s a mountaintop, a lakeside dock, or a hot air balloon—we’ll help you choose from popular options or work with you on a unique location that fits your vision.

Once the date and location are set, we’ll finalize any logistical details. That might include confirming permits for public lands, coordinating timing for sunrise or sunset ceremonies, or ensuring accessibility for guests. We’ll also go over what to bring (hiking shoes? sunglasses?) and confirm the backup plan if weather throws us a curveball.

Say "I do" and sign the license.

On your wedding day, simply bring your valid photo IDs and the marriage license. I’ll guide you through the planned ceremony. Once the vows are exchanged and rings are on, we’ll sign the license together to make it official!

After the ceremony, I’ll personally handle submitting your signed license to the appropriate city or county office. You don’t need to worry about a thing—just enjoy married life while the paperwork is taken care of. Your marriage certificate will then be issued according to local guidelines.

Not as much as you might think! While this package requires more planning than our “I Do and Dash” service, we keep it simple by providing a menu of ceremony scripts and vow options to choose from. You’ll also decide on the location, and we’ll handle the details like timing, permits, and ceremony flow.

Can we really get married anywhere?

Almost! If it’s safe, accessible, and legal, we can make it happen. From cliffsides and forests to boats and hot air balloons, adventure elopements allow for plenty of creativity. Some locations may require permits or have specific guidelines, which we’ll help navigate.

How many guests can we bring?

Adventure elopements are designed to be intimate, so we recommend keeping it to 15 guests or fewer. The exact number might depend on the location—for example, some trails or overlooks may have limits on group size.

Do we need a marriage license?

Yes! You’ll need to apply for a marriage license from the appropriate county office 3–6 weeks before your wedding. Requirements, waiting periods, and expiration dates vary by location, but we’re happy to help you research what applies to your chosen spot.

Do we have to hike or do something "extreme?"

Not at all! While hiking or climbing might appeal to some couples, adventure elopements can be as relaxed or thrilling as you want. You can choose a scenic spot that’s easily accessible, like a lakeside or garden, or go full adrenaline and say “I do” while skydiving. The adventure is yours to define.

Can we write our own vows?

Yes, if you’d like to! While we offer a menu of pre-selected vows to keep the process simple, you’re welcome to prepare your own. We just ask that you keep them under two minutes each to maintain the adventure-friendly flow of the ceremony.

What if the weather is bad?

Nature is unpredictable, and adventure elopements often come with weather challenges. If there’s a chance of rain, snow, or high winds, we’ll discuss a backup plan during the planning stage to ensure the ceremony can go on safely—whether that means relocating or embracing the weather with rain boots and umbrellas!

What should we wear?

That depends entirely on your location and vibe. If you’re heading to a mountaintop or wooded trail, wear comfortable shoes and weather-appropriate attire. If it’s a boat or hot air balloon, dress for the conditions. We’ll go over location-specific recommendations when finalizing the plan.

What happens after the ceremony?

Once you’ve said your vows, exchanged rings (if desired), and signed the marriage license, we’ll take care of submitting the paperwork to the appropriate county office. Your official marriage certificate will then be processed and sent to you based on local guidelines.

How far in advance should we book?

We recommend booking at least 4–6 weeks in advance to give us time to coordinate logistics like permits, travel, and timing. However, if you have a spontaneous idea and a valid marriage license, reach out—we might still be able to make it happen!

Can we choose a sunrise or sunset ceremony?

Of course! Sunrise and sunset ceremonies are some of the most magical options for adventure elopements. Just keep in mind that early morning or late-evening locations may have accessibility or lighting considerations, which we’ll plan for in advance.

Do we need a permit for outdoor locations?

Some locations, like state parks, national parks, or certain landmarks, may require a permit for ceremonies or professional photography. We’ll help research what’s needed for your chosen spot and assist with submitting any necessary applications.

Can we bring pets?

Absolutely—if your location allows it! We know that pets are family, and many adventure elopements include a furry ring bearer or honorary guest. Just be sure to bring water, snacks, and whatever they might need to stay comfortable during the ceremony.

Can you recommend locations if we're unsure?

Yes! We have a list of scenic, adventure-friendly spots in Central Texas and beyond. Whether you want something easily accessible or off the beaten path, we’ll help find the perfect setting for your big day.

What if we want to elope outside of Texas?

While we primarily focus on local adventure elopements, we’re open to traveling for special requests. Travel fees and additional planning time may apply for out-of-state locations, but we’re happy to discuss the details if you have a dream spot in mind.

What if we get lost on the way to the location?

We’ll make sure that doesn’t happen! Before the big day, we’ll provide you with clear directions, GPS coordinates, and any specific details for parking or meeting spots. If it’s a tricky location, we can also coordinate a meeting point beforehand.

How physically demanding is this?

It varies based on your chosen location. Some spots are as easy as walking a few steps from the car, while others might involve a short hike. We’ll discuss the physical requirements in advance and help you choose a location that fits your comfort level.

Can we include religious elements in the ceremony?

Yes! While adventure elopements use a pre-selected menu of vows and scripts, you can choose options that include faith-based language, scripture readings, or other religious traditions if that’s meaningful to you.

What if we need to cancel or reschedule?

We understand that plans change. Your $50 booking fee is non-refundable, but if you need to reschedule, we’ll apply that payment to your alternate date and do our best to accommodate you based on availability. Additional fees may apply for rescheduling within 7 days of the ceremony date.

Policy & Considerations

Legal Considerations

As an ordained minister through American Marriage Ministries, I am able to solemnize marriages anywhere in the U.S. Officiant requirements may vary with state and local laws. We will conduct all the research and action necessary to make sure we're legally prepared to officiate your ceremony at no additional cost to you, of course. Keep in mind, officiant registration in certain locations may take some time, so the sooner we get started, the better if extra action is required in your county.

Depending on your location, witnesses may or may not be required to sign your marriage license (even for elopements). Again, we will conduct all necessary research to inform you of everything you need to consider prior to the event.

Preparation

Initial consultation is included in all packages to discuss the ceremony details and any specific requirements or preferences.

A draft of the ceremony will be provided for review and approval. This includes up to two rounds of revisions; additional revisions may incur a fee.

Rehearsal services are available at an additional fee and must be scheduled in advance.

At the Event

Couples will be responsible for providing the marriage license for signature at the time of their scheduled event. For information on getting your marriage license, please visit our page here.

Each individual will be required to bring a form of government issued photo identification (driver's license or passport) for verification purposes. A scanned photocopy of your identification will be kept in our records along with your signed contract. See our privacy policy for more information on this requirement.

At this time, we will not perform proxy marriages, regardless of state or local laws . Both individuals must be physically present in order to perform the ceremony. (Exceptions may apply for deployed military service members - please inquire if this applies to you.)

Travel & Accommodation

If your ceremony requires travel beyond 100 miles, additional travel expenses and potential accommodation costs will be assessed.
All travel beyond a 25 mile radius will accrue an additional fixed mileage fee (calculated by the shortest route in Google Maps, excluding tolls).

To get this out of the way, we do not expect an invitation to rehearsal dinners, receptions, or anything outside of the actual ceremony. If the couple insists on extending an invite, a "plus one" invitation would kindly be appreciated. We will comply with all R.S.V.P. timelines and costs as necessary.
